Tin Can Knits Rye Light Socks

Oh! I managed three whole posts before I got back to the subject of socks! But, these are not my normal socks. Nary a stripe to be seen. These lovelies are the Rye Light Socks by Tin Can Knits (TCK) and they are a delight!

This yarn has been sitting in my stash for about a year or so, and it’s been winking at me periodically, but I’ve been saving all my special yarns until the more workaday yarns were all knitted.

Having finished the Martian Rainbow socks, these had to be next.

Rye Light Socks – the pattern

Because the yarn is unstriped, I decided to add a bit of pattern and have had my eye on this design for a while. I LOVE TCK patterns. They are written in such an easy to read manner and have great size ranges. Rye Light Socks are no exception and are delightful to knit. The pattern is more refined than my usual Regia Vanilla sock, but it’s not a tricky pattern at all.

Oh….and it’s free!

Although I did manage to fluff the toes, but you can’t blame the lovely TCK ladies for that. It was all down to user error! I forgot I was doing a new pattern and just threw my normal toe on. Thankfully I have more yarn in the stash for this pattern. I’ll get it right next time!

The yarn

Despite my efforts to mess up, the finished effect is really pleasing, and, I think, the pattern really showcases this beautiful yarn. It’s Sheepish Sock from Ginger Twist Studio, and it’s gorgeous!

I bought the yarn when I went up to Edinburgh for a conference last year. Jess, the owner, has created the most adorable yarn shop, with a beautifully curated selection of fine yarn, books and accessories. Its everything you want in a local yarn store (apart from the fact it’s not local to me! Sigh!) and you just want to grab needles and a cuppa and settle in for the duration. If you’re ever in town, try and visit. It’s a joy!

Anyway, back to the yarn. Because it was a total joy to knit with. So much so that I’m wishing I’d bought enough for a sweater for myself rather than a pair of socks worth! The colour is saturated and glowing. There is a slight halo to the finish.

And, it’s and 80/20 mix of Blue Faced Leicester and nylon, so it’s machine washable too.

Perfect.

A lovely colour – still bright enough to hold their own alongside your usual colourful stripes in the sock drawer.
