I don’t mind admitting that Helen’s Closet Blackwood cardigan is my favourite pattern of all time!
I made my first one in March and I’ve worn it at least once a week, every week, since then. Sometimes more! I’ll pull it out of the closet before a RTW cardigan every. single. time! I much prefer it.
So I’ve been on a bit of a Blackwood kick recently. This is the first of 3 new Blackwoods. And I love it!
The fabric is a beautiful jersey from Stone Fabrics. It’s a nice weight – beefy but with enough drape for this style.
I have toyed with the idea of a small sway back adjustment…but, I’ll be honest, those wrinkles bother me less on a cardigan than they would do in a dress!
I got enough of the fabric to make an Alabama Chanin project as well! That’s for later in the year. And will also be a Blackwood!
The colour is wonderful. I’ve realised that navy is my main neutral, so this blue is a fabulous counterpoint, and therefore a perfect addition to my wardrobe.
In this colour, the Blackwood cardigan really lifts an outfit. I love how it makes this Avid Seamstress Drop Sleeve top, which I’d initially thought of as a bit of a fail, into a really easygoing everyday outfit. The jeans are RTW, but I need to copy them and make them in ALL the winter fabrics. With boots instead of trainers I’ve got my autumn everyday wardrobe nailed!
I can just about summon enthusiasm for a shopping trip if boots are on the list! Especially as I don’t ever have to drag around the shops looking for a longline cardigan in a great colour ever again. They are invariably black, navy or grey but often have nasty buttons or the v-neck hits at a weird point. Or, of course, they simply don’t fit!
With the Blackwood….problem solved!
