Hand knits – pink stripy socks and a cardigan

Miss Minx has a style all her own! I love it and totally encourage her to experiment. If you can’t have fun with your clothes when you’re 11, you’ve no hope of enjoying them when you get older. Today she is rocking two hand knits. One from me, one from Grandma.

Obviously when you’re 11 you have to look serious and cool too. She pilfered the shades from Nana!

The socks are Jane Richmond’s Tube Socks for kids, which I’ve knitted for Summer before and love. I can set up and knit the toe in no time at all, and then just mindlessly knit in rounds until I reach the right length.

The yarn is a West Yorkshire Spinners self striping, I think! They are a whole lot of look and her favourite socks in the world.

The cardigan is the perfect foil for all that pinkness, and also perfect with this denim bib-dress. The dress and tee are RTW from Next.

Grandma knitted this as a Christmas gift. The pattern is from the Sirdar Jolly Beachcomber Knits. The yarn is one or other of those big balls of aran yarn. Grandma has knit both pattern and yarn before.

She loves the cardigan too, and wears it all the time. It’s great for this change of season where its often still chilly but too warm for a coat.

I just love that even at 11, which is a very tricky age, she’s still pulling hand knits out of the wardrobe and styling them in her own way. And she’s already looking forward to the next knit that I’ll pull out of the box for her. I think we’re doing something right that she appreciates the handmade rather more than just mass produced! I’m happy to keep making for both of them for as long as they are happy to wear the garments that come off my needles.

She’s a very well put together young lady and, hopefully, she’ll continue to enjoy wearing Mum and Grandma’s talented offerings for years to come. That’ll keep you both busy!

Keeps me out of the pub! I really hope she sticks with hand made. I do love sewing and knitting for them both.

Both very nice, and worn with suitable aplomb by Missy

  3. She’s beautiful and has great style (thanks to her mum and grandma too!)
