The end is nigh!

Edit:  Some folk were having problems seeing both videos so I’ve edited to separate them.  Sorry about that.  Hope this is easier.

Well, we’re in the last week of the summer holidays and I can’t say I’ll be sorry to see the back of them.  Honestly, there have been days when it’s been like Lord of the Flies here…the kids have been wild.

I totally understand that the house hunting has been unsettling for them, but the holiday pendulum has swung from lovely, lazy mornings with breakfast in bed, reading and watching movies, to them running up and down the roof of Hubby’s car and scratching “I love you” into the bonnet!   Sigh.  At least their spelling is improving…and their handwriting!

Sadly we’ve also had to make the tough decision to re-home our beloved Carter. With a rescue dog you take a leap of faith and whilst he has the most lovely temperament around the kids, outside the home it was getting harder and more dangerous to walk him.  Several times this holiday he’s either pulled me into the road or knocked one of the kids sideways.

We’ve spent a lot of time and money trying to help him get the hang of walking without dashing into the road after something exciting, but to no avail.  He also hadn’t been socialised as a pup and so had shocking manners with other dogs which sometimes turned quite nasty.

With the children on the scene I couldn’t risk this escalating into an accident so we sadly returned him to the rescue at the weekend.  We know they’ll take good care of him and find him another happy home.

Thankfully the good is outweighing the bad at the moment.  The house hunting is, we think, over.  We hope we’ve found the right place and that everything will go smoothly.  As soon as we’ve got everything nailed down I’ll share more.  Until then, keep everything crossed for us, please!

And, the kids have started ballroom dancing lessons. They used to do ballet and tap but were, quite frankly, bored rigid with it and so I didn’t quibble when they gave it up.   They’ve been itching to learn ballroom for a couple of years….they’re avid Strictly Come Dancing fans.  So when my MIL found details of a local class I signed them up.

I had no idea what I was letting myself in for.  Apparently they are quite good and having had only 10 lessons so far, will be competing in Blackpool in October.  Eep.

So, if you can stand the cuteness, here’s some recent crappy iPhone video taken at dance class.  Altogether now…….awwwwwwwwwwwww!

They dance so well! A lot better if I had tried it.

Glad you’ve found a home. I hope the closing goes smoothly and without any hiccups!

From your lips to God’s ears. We’re just waiting for confirmation re the mortgage. Even though we’ve had a yes in principle, I’ll feel a lot happier when we have a firm yes!

And the kids are too cute, no? I can’t wait until they’re at the stage where they can partner each other!

both my boys love ball room dancing. Hope all settles soon and it all works out for the move

How cool that both your boys dance! Boy would go every single day given the opportunity. I can’t wait till the move is over and we can settle down to normality. It will be bliss!

  4. Wonderful news about the house – fingers crossed! I’m so sorry about Carter. I know how hard you worked with him, and absolutely the best decision. x

Thank you. It was a hard decision but I think it’s not only best for us but best for him too. He needs someone who can handle him better and then he can get out more. As he got started to fill out he was way too strong for me. xxx

  5. Shame about your pooch but I understand.Good news about the house – will keep everything crossed. And yes….awwwwwww……what little twinkled toed lovelies they are. You will have to go on holiday to Spain next year and they can dance into the early hours of the morning at a village fiesta!

    • Pendle Stitches says:

Dancing in Spain sounds like a wonderful thing to do! I think we’ll need a holiday after the busyness of this year.
It was such a hard decision about Carter, but a couple of days in and I’m sure it was the right one.

  6. So sorry about your dog. He seemed a nice guy from the picture but I totally understand your concern. Your safety and that of your family is most important. It’s so cool to see them dancing…thanks for sharing the video. I can already picture them in those lovely costumes swirling around. I am keeping my fingers crossed on the house and look forward to seeing some pics.

He was a lovely natured dog, but just had absolutely no idea how to behave in public! We had a lot of training and still, as soon as the lead went on, everything fell out of his head and he was totally silly. So sad. But he’d come close to getting us both squished on the road and that wasn’t a good thing! As soon as I’m sure about what’s happening with the house, I’ll be sharing some photos! 😉

  7. They are great dancers. I am so impressed by their fancy footwork. How fab that they are keen on such a cool hobby. So sorry to hear about Carter. He looks such a handsome boy. Is he a retriever? We had one when I was tiny, with pretty much the same problems although he was an absolute sweetheart. He chewed everything in the house and had not been trained as a puppy either so was a bit unruly. Dad gave him away to a friend to be a gun dog. He chewed the birds he retrieved too. 🙂
Good luck with the house. I hope that everything goes smoothly for you all. Xx

Such cute dancing! And I’m so sorry to hear about Carter. That must be so difficult for you all. I wish him a wonderful new home with someone who can walk him safely and for you to get a wonderful new dog when it’s time…
