The Couture Cardigan Jacket

I’m in the really rather fortunate position of only living about an hour from the legendary Linton Tweeds shop.

Don’t hate me!

I have visited once before, when I bought the fabric for my Chanel style dress.

I’m longing to make a classic Chanel style jacket, but am waiting until the CrossFit kicks in and I’m a bit slimmer before putting all that work into a garment.  To be fair I’m not planning much sewing for myself over the coming months.  Only garments that will be easy to alter.

So you can imagine how thrilled I was to open my email inbox this morning to an email from Threads with details of a new book available for pre-order.

cardigan_jacketOh my!

Make this signature jacket for yourself. Coco Chanel’s designs have captivated the imaginations of fashion lovers for generations. Now, with The Couture Cardigan Jacket, home sewers can create their own high-fashion jackets with the impeccable look and fine detailing of the iconic original.

I am so excited by this book…I’ve already pre-ordered it.  It’s available on Amazon.co.uk for £15.19 with free delivery.  A bargain, no?

In The States you can order from Taunton press direct.

It looks like its going to be an amazing resource:

Learn the fine art of couture sewing. With The Couture Cardigan Jacket, you will be able to follow all the steps involved in replicating the characteristics of this signature jacket, including:

  • Cutting and shaping the jacket sections

  • Sewing princess seaming

  • Setting the sleeve

  • Adding the chain weight

  • Creating the double buttonhole

It should be with me early in November.

And who knows, maybe Father Christmas will bring me a voucher for Lintons…

Nothing wrong with researching a project thoroughly! Can’t wait to see what you think of the book… How’s the first few crossfit sessions been?

    • My sentiments exactly! Although I suspect there’ll be some eye rolling from The Husband at another book joining the sewing library.
As for the CrossFit…we had our introductory session yesterday. 2 hours of teaching us to complete all the moves correctly and safely, followed by a small workout. It’s so reassuring that they put such store in safety. And I’m just about able to move again now! First full session will be this week. I can’t wait.

Yes, how have the Crossfit sessions going? I hope it is going well. I have made the same resolution to start getting back into shape so I am hopefully better able to keep up with my two cherubs.

I hope you do review the book. My other resolution is to try to do some projects that require more attention to detail, rather than just slapping something together.

    • I’m trying to up my game on my projects too. I really want to make better quality garments. And living so close to Lintons it seems awfully rude not to make a Chanel style jacket!
We haven’t been able to do any full CrossFit sessions until we’d completed yesterday’s training. They are so hot on keeping you safe and injury free. But, oddly, I’m itching to get going. The small sessions we have done are so hard but you feel soooooo good afterwards. I can’t wait to see what happens when we really get into it. I might even be able to catch the little beasties then 😉

  5. That sounds like a great plan! I want to make an overdue blazer this year. Good luck with the first crossfit class… I’ll be curious to hear

  6. Oh no more enabling! 🙂

Good luck with CrossFit too and maybe you can read your new book while catching your breath 🙂

You live close to Linton Tweed?!?!!? You lucky lady you!!! I’m going to be sewing the couture version of a Chanel jacket next month and am SUPER excited about getting into it. Can’t wait to see what fabric you end up getting, and do let us all know what you think of the book! And cross fit? I’m super impressed! 🙂

    • I’d be super excited too! I can’t wait to see your jacket. You do know that Linton does mail order, don’t you! 😉
And I’m not remotely impressive at the CrossFit at the moment!
