Happy New Year

Phew!  We made it through 2010 and safely into 2011.

I hope your Christmas and New Year celebrations have been quite as wonderful as ours, and that this shiny New Year brings you all that you wish for yourself and your family.

If you’re a regular visitor Chez Stitches you’ll know that we’ve had a rather busy and exciting year.

  • We finalised Button’s adoption.
  • We brought The Boy home.  At long last.
  • We got married.  Wow!  We were beginning to think we’d never get down the aisle.
  • I finished another module of my degree course.  Goodness knows how I passed it, but I did.  Not the best result ever but I didn’t disgrace myself and did better than I’d hoped, or, based on the piddling amount of work I did, actually deserved!
  • We survived another round of redundancies at Mr S’s work.
  • I lost over 30 lbs.
  • I made my wedding and bridesmaid’s dresses.

It looks such a small list when it’s written down, but, in the main they have been pretty large and life changing achievements.

And in-between the big stuff I’ve completed another 16 projects, the majority of work on the house is finished (enough that anything else we want to change we can do at our leisure), and the garden is well on its way to being usable.

We’ve had our sadness’s too this year with Mr S’s aunt and uncle passing, but it’s pretty obvious, from even the most cursory glance, that we have a great deal to be thankful for.  And we are.

But now it’s time to say “Goodbye 2010” and “Hello and welcome” to 2011.

I have to say that as I sit here with the blank canvas of a new year laid out before me I’m pretty excited about the opportunities.

You see, this year we have no Big Plans.

Yes, we’re hoping to finalise The Boy’s adoption before Easter….but all we can do is sit and wait whilst the wheels of Bureaucracy creak increasingly slowly forwards.  Don’t get me started on that one.  It won’t be pretty.  This is our 4th year in the adoption process!

Yes, we shall be baptising the children once we’ve got his adoption order in place…but that’s a very small affair and I already have the plan in place for that…I just need a date.

But that’s it!

No big events.

No major renovations.

No degree module (I’m taking a break for a year or so until the kids are at school and I have a wee bit more time and quiet).

So, you know what this means, don’t you?

Yep…..this is the year I get to do some SEWING!!!!!!

*Cue chiming bells, extravagant fireworks and heavenly choirs*

I’m currently formulating a plan that will have my wardrobe looking decidedly more stylish by the year end….although lets face it, that wouldn’t take a great deal of effort.  It’s embarrassingly shabby and depleted at the moment.

But, whilst I’m working on the plan, I’m declaring January the month I clear some of my stash.

You see, I’m really not a stash kinda girl.  I’ve decided that it really doesn’t work for me and that going forward I need to only buy fabric for specific projects.  I know some of you guys and gals love a stash, and that some of you have stashes that are more impressive than any of my local yarn or fabric suppliers, but it’s not my thing.

Hey, it’s only taken me about 25 years to figure that out.

I’m a quick study….not!

So over the weekend I’m packing up the Christmas decorations, giving the house a quick flick and then locking my self in my sewing room and working out what to make first.

Watch this space.

I don’t think your list looks small at all. I think it looks tremendously impressive. Congratulations and may you have as much success and happiness in 2011!
